Act today to get cosponsors on the Disability Integration Act!

The Disability Integration Act (DIA) is a bipartisan civil rights legislation that ensures people with disabilities have a right to live and receive services in their own homes. The DIA also prevents people with disabilities from being forced into costly institutional settings due to unnecessary government regulations. The DIA (H.R. 555 and S. 117) was introduced on January 15th by Senators Charles Schumer, Minority Leader and Cory Gardner in the Senate and Representative Jim Sensenbrenner in the House.

In New York, several members have yet to sign on as cosponsors to H.R.555. We need to get the following representatives to sign on as cosponsors to the DIA:

  • Rep. Lee Zeldin (NY-1)

  • Rep. Pete King (NY-2)

  • Rep. Grace Meng (NY-6)

  • Rep. Nydia Velazquez (NY-7)

  • Rep. Jerrold Nadler (NY-10)

  • Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8)

  • Rep. Nita Lowey (NY-17)

  • Rep. Tom Reed (NY-23)

  • Rep. Chris Collins (NY-27)

Action:
If one of your legislators is listed above, please call them today and urge them to sign onto the Disability Integration Act as a cosponsor!

Call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for your Representative’s office or contact your Representative’s office directly.

Once connected, ask to speak with a staff member who handles civil rights. Make sure you give them your name and identify that you are a constituent. Tell the staff member, “Please tell Representative [NAME] that I want them to co-sponsor the Disability Integration Act (H.R. 555) today!”

You can tell your story and use the talking points provided. Tell them to contact Amy Bos in Representative Jim Sensenbrenner’s office at 202-225-5101 or amy.bos@mail.house.gov to sign on as a co-sponsor today! This may take multiple calls and emails.

You can also call, email, and post to social media. Hashtags: #DIA #DIAToday #DisabilityFreedom.
